About the role

  • Health and Safety Coordinator at Aecon ensuring safety standards on construction sites. Collaborating with teams to enhance safety measures and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure enforcement of the safety standards required by the project's prevention program.
  • Contribute to the development and updating of the prevention program for the construction site.
  • Monitor the implementation and proper functioning of coordination mechanisms among employers present on the site.
  • Identify situations that may present hazards and act proactively.
  • Conduct workplace inspections.
  • Ensure that workers understand the types of risks associated with their tasks.
  • Accompany the inspector during inspection visits.
  • Serve as a health and safety reference for workers and supervisors on the site.
  • Order work stoppage when the situation requires it.
  • Participate in site committee meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Prepare and complete various HSE reports, documents and statistics.
  • Issue notices of non-compliance and ensure follow-up.
  • Conduct H&S orientations for workers on site.
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery inspections comply with the requirements of the prevention program and/or the manufacturer's manual.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
  • Recognized HSE certifications (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, CNESST training, First Aid/CPR).
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in health, safety and environment in a construction or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of safety laws, standards and best practices.
  • Experience with inspections, audits and risk assessments.
  • Ability to investigate incidents and produce clear, detailed reports.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to train and support workers.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and make decisions under pressure.
