Project Engineer managing nuclear EPC design, procurement, construction, and commissioning scopes for Aecon, a Canadian infrastructure builder. Coordinating DSPs, customers, vendors, and nuclear quality requirements.
Responsibilities
Function as the technical project manager for Aecon’s sublet design and procurement engineering scopes for nuclear life cycle activities
Support proposal development, technical specifications, RFQs, bid evaluations, engineering manhour estimates, risk assessments, and proposal turnover
Review customer specifications and design documents and reconcile engineering scope at contract kickoff
Identify engineering risks and determine DSP oversight requirements
Prepare DSP specifications, support DSP selection, and establish engineering communication protocols
Conduct site walkdowns and support design, constructability, and engineering activity planning
Chair and monitor engineering progress with design service providers and review vendor progress and testing, including FAT
Act as the engineering representative in customer progress and design review meetings
Review, transmit, prepare, and approve design products and Aecon Technical Specifications
Select Quality Assurance programs for procured items and review engineered equipment design documents
Support constructability, design challenge, value engineering, and design progress reviews
Maintain the lead engineering interface with the customer and DSP during construction
Review design revisions, NCR/FIC dispositions, change requests, and construction work packages
Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to Project Coordinators
Coordinate commissioning plans, final walkdowns, punch lists, commissioning support, performance test results, and turnover documents
Resolve functional and design deficiencies with engineered equipment suppliers
Requirements
Professional Engineer, ideally with a minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in engineering and construction of EPC projects
Working knowledge of CANDU nuclear plant systems and components
Strong knowledge of industry codes and OPG standards
Knowledge of CSA N28 series standards relevant to the discipline role, including N285 for mechanical and pressure boundary scopes
Strong knowledge of Nuclear N299 standards and relevant quality programs
Knowledge of applicable ASME codes for pressure boundary work, including ASME Section III, Class 1 and Class 2
Experience and knowledge procuring nuclear-class components and systems
Experience working directly with engineering service providers and construction trades
Familiarity with power plant system components including valves, piping, pipe supports, instrumentation, rotating equipment, and electrical equipment
Knowledge of engineering and construction change management processes
Modification Team Lead (MTL) qualified for OPG contracts
Leadership and team skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
