About the role

  • Project Controls Analyst II managing budgets, forecasts, invoices and SAP controls for AltaLink’s Alberta electricity transmission projects. Supporting project managers across the full project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and ensure financial project controls for estimates, forecasts, billings and project close-out.
  • Maintain expertise in core controls processes, systems and financial transactions for estimating, forecasting and cost performance.
  • Ensure adherence to processes and AltaLink standards and policies, including coaching PCA I’s.
  • Coordinate annual capital and operating budgets.
  • Interface with Project Managers, schedulers and EPCM service providers to align cost estimates and forecasts with schedules.
  • Assess change notices against AltaLink procedures and regulatory rules at project and program levels.
  • Support Project Managers and the PMO with cost estimates and change orders for stakeholder and customer approval.
  • Assess EPC project invoices and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and validate capital cost reports, accruals and forecasts using monthly analysis tools.
  • Set up and maintain projects in SAP according to PMO standards.
  • Ensure change control management follows AltaLink procedures.
  • Provide quality assurance and ensure adherence to corporate Project Controls procedures and practices.
  • Support Project Managers, functional teams and management in achieving project deliverables, schedules and financial objectives.
  • Collaborate with Project Management, Finance, Regulatory and Procurement, and interface with external consultants, contractors and EPC service providers as required.

Requirements

  • Post Secondary Degree or related combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience managing up to $100M and/or 10 complex projects.
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP modules: Finance, Controlling, Project Systems, Materials Management, and Plant Maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Primavera (P6) is an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of project management practice and experience in work and resource planning, budgeting, monitoring, analyzing and reporting.
  • Knowledge of engineering design practices, procurement and construction is an asset.
  • Experience preparing monthly status reports for project and program reviews and providing feedback to PMs and leadership.
  • Experience preparing detailed forecasts to support annual capital and operating budgets.
  • Strong analytical, communication, teamwork, decision making, detail-oriented, adaptability/change management skills.
  • Effective communication skills to interface with team members and customers.
  • Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
  • Some positions may require job-specific assessments, regular criminal record checks, additional AltaLink training, medical assessments, annual drivers abstract, and drug tests.
