About the role
- Senior Mechanical Engineer leading plant reliability, maintenance, and CAPEX projects. Supporting A. O. Smith’s water-heating and treatment manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced engineering tasks without direct supervision
- Lead and mentor the engineering design team throughout development projects from initial concept through successful completion
- Provide technical leadership in resolving complex mechanical issues affecting production equipment and plant infrastructure
- Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies
- Conduct failure analyses and recommend sustainable corrective actions
- Identify and lead continuous improvement projects focused on equipment performance, safety, and lifecycle
- Provide technical support to maintenance teams during complex repairs, troubleshooting, and emergencies
- Assess equipment condition and recommend repairs, replacements, upgrades, or capital investments
- Prepare technical specifications, scopes of work, engineering documents, and RFQs for mechanical projects
- Supervise contractors and suppliers during installation, repair, modification, and maintenance activities
- Participate in maintenance and CAPEX budget development and management
- Collaborate with production teams to optimize work methods and operational efficiency
- Participate in incident investigations and identify corrective actions for equipment-related issues
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in project management or plant engineering
- Experience in a heavy manufacturing or continuous production environment
- Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, gear reducers, and material handling equipment
- Experience managing industrial capital projects (CAPEX)
- Bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
- Experience in contract management and contractor supervision
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, including AutoCAD, Inventor, and SolidWorks
- Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE) certification
