About the role

  • Lab Technician supporting Apotex’s affordable medicines business through QC laboratory inventory, equipment, glassware, waste, and GMP documentation. Performing instrument qualifications, calibrations, and basic analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Document shipping and receiving of lab instruments, equipment and chemicals for the Analytical Operations/QC department
  • Consult with the Supervisor or designate regarding correct labelling and storage locations
  • Support ordering and maintain stock levels of chemicals, solvents, equipment and supplies
  • Maintain electronic and physical inventories of chemicals, solvents and labware
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization and safety of storage and labware rooms
  • Dispose of expired materials, laboratory liquid and solid waste, and hazardous laboratory waste according to approved procedures
  • Remove empty containers and bottles from the laboratory
  • Wash, dry and store laboratory glassware using the lab dishwasher
  • Execute Performance Qualifications on selected lab instruments and report defective equipment
  • Assist with equipment repairs when required
  • Maintain service request and repair-history records for department instrumentation and equipment
  • Complete annual physical inventory reconciliations against electronic inventory
  • Provide backup support in other areas and perform daily instrument calibrations if required
  • Participate in Quality Control activities when certified, including sampling quarantined material and basic chemical analysis under senior chemist guidance
  • Ensure results and documentation are high quality, timely and GMP-compliant
  • Develop proficiency with selected laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Keep the laboratory, instruments and glassware clean
  • Collaborate safely as a team member and adhere to organizational values and compliance programs
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Chemical Technician College diploma (minimum 2 years) or related scientific field
  • Alternatively, high school diploma with chemistry courses and 3 years of industrial or laboratory experience
  • Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Ability to periodically lift up to 20 Kg
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Acquainted with organic chemistry nomenclature and chemistry lab instrumentation
  • Ability to participate in shift rotation and/or on-call if required
  • Shipping and receiving experience would be an asset
