Responsibilities
Support clients across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, and Canada’s three territories
Support Project Managers on tailings engineering, environmental investigations, remediation, and permitting projects
Lead technical delivery and oversee junior staff
Coordinate project resources and work with senior technical leaders
Plan and deliver mine tailings and waste rock investigations, designs, and management solutions
Prepare technical reports and work plans
Perform engineering evaluations of tailings facilities, waste rock storage areas, and water management structures, including dams, dykes, and diversion systems
Coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies
Act as or develop toward serving as Engineer of Record (EoR) or Deputy EoR
Provide technical oversight and ensure engineering integrity across projects
Lead and contribute to geotechnical engineering reviews
Oversee laboratory testing programs
Support planning and execution of annual dam and site inspections in accordance with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management and Canadian Dam Association guidelines
Define project goals and constraints and coordinate internal and external stakeholder input
Develop practical, risk-informed solutions for client challenges
Support client engagement, business development, permitting efforts, and regulatory compliance
Represent Arcadis professionally and support existing client relationships and growth opportunities
Requirements
MSc degree in civil or geotechnical engineering, or a related field, from an accredited university
Minimum 15–20 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, preferably within the mining industry
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province or territory
Demonstrated experience with tailings facilities, dam engineering, and waste rock management
Strong communication skills and ability to engage clients and represent Arcadis externally
Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and mentoring junior staff
Experience with mine tailings and waste rock management
Proficiency or valued experience with geotechnical modeling software such as GeoStudio, RocScience, FLAC, or PLAXIS
Working knowledge of Civil 3D, ArcGIS, or similar geospatial tools
Strong capability with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Multilingual skills are valued (English, Spanish, French)
