About the role

  • HR Manager building a comprehensive people function for Arctic Kingdom’s Canadian Arctic lodges and expeditions. Leading compliance, workforce transformation, and organizational change across field and corporate teams.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead a comprehensive human resources function across all Arctic Kingdom business segments
  • Build and institutionalize the HR function to support current and future business needs
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized HR policies and programs
  • Advise management and employees on employee relations matters, grievances, and workplace issues
  • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with the company’s business strategy
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, professional, and high-performance workplace culture
  • Design and oversee performance management and appraisal systems
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Recruit, train, and manage HR staff as the function grows
  • Support the transition of seasonal employees into engaged stakeholders
  • Develop operations leaders into adaptable change leaders
  • Increase leadership presence in operational environments and provide executives with firsthand field insights
  • Strengthen communication between field teams and remote leadership
  • Implement systems, processes, and accountability mechanisms reinforcing operating standards
  • Collaborate with leadership on the company mission, vision, values, strategy, and goals
  • Assist with organizational restructuring, change management, and internal communications
  • Develop and promote a company-wide code of ethics and conduct
  • Ensure compliance with the NWT Employment Standards Act, NWT Safety Act, WSCC requirements, and NWT Human Rights Act
  • Maintain compliant employee records
  • Manage WSCC registration, claims, and return-to-work coordination
  • Manage HR compliance across NT, NL, and ON
  • Serve as primary contact for employment-related audits and inquiries
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Progressive, senior-level HR leadership experience, ideally including building or scaling an HR function from the ground up
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous governments, organizations, or communities, with genuine cultural awareness and relationship-building skills
  • Working knowledge of employment legislation across NT, NL, and ON
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; BambooHR preferred
  • Experience with payroll systems; Ceridian preferred
  • Comfort operating in remote field environments and corporate office settings
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strong change management, organizational design, and employee relations skills
  • Excellent judgment and discretion
  • Ability to build trust across a geographically dispersed workforce
