About the role

  • Senior mechanical engineer designing industrial systems and leading capital projects for Barr’s mining and heavy-industry clients. Hybrid role based in Calgary or Saskatoon.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Engineering and Design business unit through multidisciplinary project teams
  • Serve industrial clients in mining, power generation, oil and gas, and manufacturing
  • Develop and review engineering calculations, system specifications, and construction drawings
  • Select equipment and components
  • Guide project execution from concept through bid packages
  • Contribute to technical reports, cost estimates, proposals, and client-facing documentation
  • Design industrial systems involving fluid transfer, bulk material handling, and plant layout
  • Prepare design and construction drawings, specifications, sketches, and detailed designs
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute projects
  • Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients
  • Perform construction observation and surveying as needed
  • Serve as lead mechanical engineer or project manager for large capital projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification or ability to obtain within one year
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software
  • Current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong writing ability
  • Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative
  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills
  • Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future
  • Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Willingness to travel on short-term, out-of-town trips
  • Ability to work in rough construction-site terrain and lift or move field testing equipment as needed
