About the role

  • Communications Specialist creating multimedia, web, social, and media content for British Columbia’s energy regulator. Translating technical information into accessible public communications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide communications expertise and a range of communications services supporting BCER’s strategic objectives
  • Provide a variety of corporate initiatives within tight timeframes and under public, political, and industry scrutiny
  • Develop operational reports, multimedia presentations, corporate and social media videos, speeches and scripts, web content, fact sheets, bulletins, safety advisories, directives, newsletters, briefing materials, and news releases
  • Develop social media and video content for campaigns, proactive issues management, and educational posts
  • Develop graphic material and graphic design treatments for presentations, social media, and reports
  • Transform BCER online datasets into accessible information for the general public and other users using an evidence-based approach
  • Respond to media inquiries and work with BCER subject matter experts to develop messaging and responses
  • Write and develop plain-language, accessible web content
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Represent the Public Trust team on internal and external committees and projects as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

  • Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field such as Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or similar, and five (5) years’ relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated experience working in, or with, media or in a public relations / corporate and communications environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with data sets and data visualization an asset
  • Working knowledge of Content Management Systems and developing web content an asset
  • Demonstrated experience with report set-up, desktop publication, graphic and web design and/or social media programs
  • Experience with Adobe suite of products an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency with videography, photography and related editing software
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical writing to plain language or vice versa, and to edit and proofread documents
  • Preference for familiarity with CP Style
  • Demonstrated success researching, planning and delivering projects within tight timelines
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with government and industry partners considered an asset
  • Ability to build and maintain ethical, trust-based relationships
  • Ability to proactively seek and implement innovative ideas, solutions, processes or technologies
  • Ability to work transparently, inclusively, and ethically
  • Ability to define actions, identify resources, establish priorities, allocate resources, and implement complex plans
