About the role

  • Senior Advisor strengthening BDC’s relationships with Indigenous communities across Ontario. Supporting entrepreneurs through referrals, business development, tailored solutions, and economic empowerment.

Responsibilities

  • Support Indigenous entrepreneurs in achieving their ambitions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations and individuals in the entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • Promote BDC’s credibility, image, and notoriety within Indigenous communities
  • Act as a referral point for Indigenous businesses and guide entrepreneurs and partners to appropriate BDC offerings and contacts
  • Collaborate with account managers to identify opportunities and provide expert advice
  • Ensure geographic coverage and identify opportunities to help Indigenous businesses thrive
  • Foster trust-based relationships and deliver exceptional, confidential customer care
  • Communicate with senior executives, clients, and land shareholders
  • Conduct research and develop understanding of Indigenous communities
  • Educate and engage client-facing and operational support employees
  • Contribute to tailored solutions and BDC’s Indigenous entrepreneurship strategy
  • Coordinate information and actions for diversity champions
  • Support project teams in establishing training opportunities
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities with internal and external partners
  • Participate in Indigenous conferences and monitor economic trends affecting Indigenous entrepreneurs

Requirements

  • Excellent relationship building, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong understanding of the barriers and opportunities for Indigenous entrepreneurs
  • Commitment to promoting economic empowerment and development within Indigenous communities
  • Bachelor’s degree in administration or any field deemed equivalent, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • More than 5 years of experience in a financial institution in business development or other relevant experience
  • Ability to analyze financial statements, synthesize information, and communicate effectively
  • Strong leadership abilities
  • Passion for issues affecting Small and Medium Entrepreneurs and good knowledge of economic development policies and practices
  • Self-identified Indigenous individual
  • Excellent ability to speak and write in English
  • Ability to speak French is an asset
  • Valid driver’s licence
