About the role

  • Senior commercial banking manager financing and advising Southern Alberta businesses at BDC. Growing mid-market portfolios across rural communities and developing entrepreneur relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a business development plan aligned with Business Centre objectives
  • Grow the client portfolio, retain existing clients, and acquire new self-sourced business opportunities
  • Manage and expand a portfolio of mid-market clients across Southern Alberta rural markets
  • Build long-term relationships with business owners, executives, and senior decision-makers
  • Generate new business through prospecting, networking, referrals, and relationship-building
  • Engage with chambers of commerce, industry associations, economic development organizations, and professional partners
  • Analyze client financial information, business models, and financing needs
  • Structure, negotiate, present, and recommend financing solutions while adhering to BDC credit and risk requirements
  • Collaborate with internal partners to deliver integrated financing and advisory solutions
  • Manage multiple client opportunities and financing files while meeting deadlines and service standards
  • Maintain a regular presence in the assigned territory through in-market meetings, networking, and business development initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of client-facing experience in commercial banking
  • Experience supporting clients and developing business within the South Alberta market, including rural and regional communities
  • Knowledge of the local business ecosystem, economic drivers, and market opportunities in specified South Alberta regions
  • Experience in business development, including prospecting, pipeline development, lead generation, client follow-up, and opportunity management
  • Experience analyzing business models, financial information, and client financing requirements
  • Experience structuring and recommending commercial financing solutions
  • Negotiation experience with business owners, executives, and senior decision-makers
  • Ability to manage multiple client relationships, financing opportunities, and projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong relationship-building and client management skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Access to a personal vehicle
  • Strong knowledge of the business landscape and economic environment across South Alberta communities (preferred)
  • Experience with entrepreneurial and growth-oriented businesses generating up to $50 million in annual revenue (preferred)
  • Existing relationships with local business associations, professional service providers, referral partners, or economic development organizations (preferred)
  • Experience developing business opportunities in rural, regional, or agricultural-based markets (preferred)
