Senior hydrogeologist modelling groundwater for BGC’s applied earth sciences consultancy. Leading mining studies, numerical models, fieldwork, and technical teams across Canada.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with engineers and geoscientists on multidisciplinary hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry, mine waste, mine water, and rock mechanics teams
Lead hydrogeological site investigation and characterization, including soil and rock core logging, groundwater sampling, and hydraulic testing
Develop conceptual hydrogeological models and prepare reports
Provide technical expertise in mining hydrogeology and mine water management across exploration, permitting, operations, and closure
Interpret data to develop conceptual hydrogeological models
Independently conceptualize, build, calibrate, and defend numerical groundwater flow models
Script and automate modelling workflows using tools such as Python
Lead report preparation and technical writing
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate modellers and hydrogeologists
Lead field work and coordinate field projects, including contractor scope, budget, quality, and safety
Participate in or lead proposal preparation, budgeting, and scheduling
Communicate independently with clients and participate in or present at client meetings for project management or business development
Manage small to medium projects and occasionally large, complex, or multidisciplinary projects
Assist with recruitment, career planning, and employee reviews
Champion technical excellence, mentorship, and collaboration
Participate in health and safety planning
Requirements
Bachelor's or graduate degree in geoscience, geological engineering, or a related discipline
Registered as a P.Eng. or P.Geo.
6–15+ years of relevant professional experience, with a strong focus on 3D numerical modelling and technical leadership
Proficiency in scripting for modelling and data management
Demonstrated experience with groundwater and/or geotechnical modelling software, such as MODFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, FEFLOW, SEEP/W, or Leapfrog
Track record of mentoring junior and intermediate staff and acting as a technical lead or project manager
Excellent communication and technical writing skills, including client-facing presentation of model results and uncertainty
Collaborative, self-motivated, and committed to a team-oriented environment
Willingness to travel and work in the field, including remote locations
Valid driver's license and ability to drive a field pickup truck
Current passport
May be required to receive vaccinations such as yellow fever, COVID-19, or malaria vaccinations
May be required to complete drug and alcohol testing before field work or as required by clients
Experience in mining hydrogeology, including mine water management, mine waste, tailings, or mine closure studies across the mining life cycle (desired)
Experience developing client relationships and contributing to business development (desired)
Fluency in French, spoken and written (desired)
