About the role

  • Technicien de terrain chez BluMetric, société de technologies de l’eau et d’ingénierie environnementale. Prélevant des échantillons, supervisant des forages et réalisant des essais hydrologiques.

Responsibilities

  • Collect surface water and groundwater samples for water quality analysis
  • Collect soil samples and describe soil texture
  • Prepare stratigraphic descriptions of soils and rocks
  • Complete drilling logs for review by project managers
  • Supervise the drilling and installation of monitoring wells and geotechnical wells
  • Manually or continuously monitor groundwater levels
  • Organize and conduct aquifer testing
  • Install gauging stations, measure surface water velocity, and determine stream cross-sections
  • Record field activities in the field notebook
  • Review documentation and summarize field tasks
  • Contribute to report preparation
  • Perform data entry and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)
  • Contribute to proposal preparation and budgeting for fieldwork
  • Arrange rental of appropriate equipment
  • Calibrate field equipment and keep equipment records up to date
  • Accompany and mentor junior staff during field activities, as needed

Requirements

  • College diploma in Environmental Technology
  • Knowledge of Quebec environmental regulations (Environment Quality Act, Intervention Guide—Protection of Soil and Rehabilitation of Contaminated Sites, and Directive 019 on the Mining Industry) is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French are required; bilingualism (English) is an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to ensure data accuracy
  • Ability to properly operate field equipment and verify its calibration
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to make decisions in stressful situations
  • First Aid and Remote First Aid training, or willingness to obtain it
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), including statistical data processing
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS is an asset
  • Must be willing to work in varying—and sometimes challenging—weather conditions, travel to remote locations, and work away from home for up to four consecutive weeks
  • Must hold a valid driver’s licence and have access to reliable transportation
  • A driver’s licence and experience driving a pickup truck with a trailer are required
  • All candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada
