About the role

  • Plastic Technician fabricating fiberglass, graphite, and plastic aircraft parts for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Performing composite lay-up, finishing, curing, inspection, and rework onsite in Winnipeg.

Responsibilities

  • Select, identify, prefit, fabricate, assemble, pick up, rework, repair, form and finish structural and non-structural fiberglass, graphite and plastic parts and assemblies
  • Position, align, locate, fit and fasten parts into layup tools and prepare them for bonding by bagging, sealing and attaching thermocouples
  • Debag and remove completed panels from layup tools
  • Wrap finished parts in protective covering for shipping
  • Follow work orders, manufacturing plans, specifications, quality requirements, safety procedures and operating procedures
  • Document work, in-process rework and nonconformance rework
  • Use shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments
  • Hand- and machine-finish parts, cut fabrics, and fit parts into completed assemblies
  • Drill, saw, file, sand, patch, build up, trim, splice, fill and fit parts to production requirements
  • Operate ovens, impregnating, heat-treat, testing and curing equipment, machines and devices
  • Sand and polish molds
  • Apply protective materials, lacquers and parting agents to molds, forms and dies
  • Mix deliverable materials according to required ratios and processes
  • Assemble thermocouple devices
  • Prepare and mask surfaces before coating applications
  • Assess finished products, perform in-process corrections, and remove coatings for re-processing as instructed

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or recognized equivalency
  • Must be able to work evening shift (starting at 15:00) and/or midnight shift (starting at 23:00)
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
  • Individual must not pose a risk for safeguarding of controlled goods
  • Must be eligible to handle US export-controlled data
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment medical, pass up to 4 weeks of training, and a full background check, including criminal record in order to obtain employment
  • Successful candidates must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process
  • Preferred: Completion of Aerospace Manufacturing Technician (AMT), Aerospace Manufacturing and Maintenance Orientation Program (AMMOP), Aerospace Maintenance Engineer (AME), aerospace manufacturing experience, or Aerospace Composite Technician (ACT)
  • Preferred: Formal related training and post-secondary education obtained through an accredited educational institution
  • Preferred: Experience working with composites and/or composite manufacturing
  • Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status
