About the role

  • Senior Analyst operating petroleum laboratory instruments and producing quality data at Bureau Veritas’ CNRL Horizon oil sands laboratory. Leading safe, accurate shift operations.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a Safety Leader and influencer
  • Motivate and inspire team members
  • Keep team members on task and on schedule while monitoring and supporting floor operations
  • Make benchline decisions independently
  • Assist supervisors in communicating goals and roles
  • Assist the Lab Supervisor in producing high-quality, defensible data safely and on time
  • Evaluate procedure changes to improve efficiency, recovery and productivity
  • Independently operate GCs, ICPs, IC, Auto-Titrators, Viscometers, Digital Density Meters, Dean Stark and particle-size analysis instruments
  • Perform sample preparation
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures
  • Deliver accurate, high-quality analytical data on time
  • Handle glassware and equipment for extractions, refluxes and preparation
  • Maintain calibration, quality-control records and routine equipment maintenance
  • Execute daily troubleshooting of analytical equipment
  • Ensure adherence to Bureau Veritas policies, certifications and accreditations
  • Participate in the Health and Safety Program, including meetings, near-miss and incident reporting, and hazard assessments

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in related field (i.e. BS, Petroleum/Chemical Technician)
  • Minimum Education: Diploma in related field (Required)
  • 4-5 years of experience in related field (Required)
  • Demonstrated success in position of a Laboratory Analyst
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity
  • Sound knowledge of sample handling procedures and laboratory quality assurance protocols
  • Knowledge of laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices for handling hazardous materials
  • Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilities
  • Flexibility to perform varying duties and accommodate changing priorities
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority-setting skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work 12-hour shift rotations, including day and night shifts
  • Ability to work safely and follow laboratory procedures, policies, certifications and accreditations
