About the role

Community reporter/editor producing local and regional news for CBC North. Writing, reporting, editing and presenting stories across digital, radio, television and social platforms.

Responsibilities

Pitch, research, write and package original stories for all CBC platforms
Respond quickly to breaking news events by chasing, gathering, writing and packaging stories for digital, radio, social and video
Regularly present stories on-air on radio and TV, providing background and context
Cultivate and develop working relationships with sources and contacts in the Northwest Territories
Work to daily deadlines and cover local and regional news
Gather, write, edit and package content for video, digital and audio platforms
Work a variety of shifts, including early starts, late finishes and weekends

University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent, related experience
Demonstrated experience working in a news and breaking news environment
Knowledge of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices is an asset
Strong understanding of reporting for video and audio platforms
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of the politics and issues of the Northwest Territories
Ability to speak a language Indigenous to the NWT is a major asset
Valid driver’s licence
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing
Successful candidates must complete a mandatory criminal record check and other background checks as required
