Senior HSE Advisor leading HSE compliance, inspections, and incident prevention for Clark Builders’ construction projects. Supporting teams across Western and Northern Canada.
Responsibilities
Participate in prequalification of subcontractors and facilitate mitigation strategies and recommendations on trade partner selection
Advise project management teams and trade partners on HSE programs, legislation, and regulations
Oversee and assist with development and implementation of Project HSE Plans, Emergency Response Plans, and Construction Hazard Assessments
Maintain revisions to project safety plans and assessments as site conditions change
Audit and observe projects to verify compliance with project-specific HSE plans
Mentor project personnel in Pre-Task Planners, Job Hazard Assessments, and Construction Hazard Assessments
Evaluate trade partner hazard assessments and planning documentation
Verify corrective actions from inspections and investigations are implemented
Lead assigned high-potential and high-actual-severity incident investigations, including corrective actions and Lessons Learned documents
Attend client progress meetings, contractor start-up meetings, and safety meetings
Assist with implementation of Building LIFE
Conduct or participate in weekly formal inspections and Critical Control Assessments
Evaluate inspection reports and address deficient leading and lagging indicator trends
Support incident investigations and ensure incidents are managed according to Clark Builders standards
Collaborate with the Injury Management Coordinator on injury management and Return to Work planning
Retain and develop qualified HSE personnel
Mentor, train, and assist HSE Advisors with HSE compliance, policies, and procedures
Ensure HSE participation in committee, start-up, stand-down, and progress meetings
Prepare meeting agendas, materials, and mitigation strategies
Perform other related duties assigned by the HSE Manager
Requirements
Minimum 5+ years of field HSE experience in commercial and/or industrial construction
Minimum NCSO designation (or equivalent) is required
Completion of, or progress toward, additional professional designations (e.g., CRSP, CSP, ASP) is required
Standard First Aid is required
Advanced First Aid or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification is considered an asset
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required
Ability and willingness to travel frequently to support team members and project sites
Valid Class 5 driver’s licence is required
Must have a valid drivers’ license
Advanced understanding of workplace health principles, industry best practices and standards, WCB Claims Management, Environmental and applicable Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
Strong attention to detail and time management
Ability to manage multiple assignments with tight timelines
Effective communication with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form
Must display a high level of autonomy to prioritize work tasks and deliver results
Excellent interpersonal skills with internal and external clients
Ability to coordinate and facilitate team meetings, functions, and assignments
Ability to mentor and motivate others with a hands-on approach
