About the role

  • CFO shaping financial strategy, capital optimization, and M&A growth for a Canadian mutual insurance group. Building scalable finance infrastructure and leading enterprise performance.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO and Board to define and execute the company's long-term growth strategy
  • Evaluate acquisitions, partnerships, capital investments, and new business opportunities
  • Lead enterprise-wide scenario planning and strategic financial analysis
  • Identify and improve key drivers of shareholder value
  • Provide independent challenge and insight to executive decision-making
  • Assess strategy alignment, governance, and compliance and recommend improvements
  • Analyze cash flow and liquidity to ensure optimal cash utilization and availability
  • Use IRR and WACC to inform decision-making
  • Ensure acquisitions deliver expected financial and strategic outcomes
  • Track post-acquisition performance, value realization, and portfolio performance
  • Create and maintain financial models and forecasts
  • Conduct scenario analysis for strategic decisions and investment opportunities
  • Manage and optimize current and future cash flow
  • Prepare the company for capital raises, loans, external capital, and M&A activities
  • Prepare investor presentations for capital markets participants, investors, and lending vendors
  • Establish and monitor KPIs linked to growth, EBITDA, cash flow, capital efficiency, and shareholder returns
  • Lead quarterly business performance reviews with executive leadership
  • Drive accountability for financial performance across operating companies
  • Explain financial drivers to business leaders and drive improvement actions
  • Monitor and manage the debt portfolio, including analysis, issuance, repayment, and refinancing
  • Support equity and debt offerings, including due diligence, valuation, and pricing
  • Understand group tax requirements and implement tax strategies
  • Provide financial expertise, reporting, risk mitigation, and recommendations to the Board, investors, and stakeholders
  • Establish scalable financial processes, procedures, controls, and solutions
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team
  • Collaborate across departments to steer corporate change and financial strategy
  • Align stakeholders and motivate the team around the company vision
  • Influence executive and Board decision-making
  • Build capability and leadership bench strength within the finance function

Requirements

  • University degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • MBA
  • CPA designation
  • Minimum 7 years of financial leadership experience in the insurance industry (preferred)
  • Previous CFO experience
  • Hands-on experience building financial strategy and structure to scale a business balancing operational growth and M&A
  • Proven track record in corporate finance, including investor relations, financial modelling, investment banking, or capital markets
  • Previous experience leading a capital raise and dealing with investors and shareholders
  • Experience working in the private sector with a large subsidiary base
  • Experience with cash management to fund M&A and generate long-term profits
  • Practical experience raising equity and debt financing and communicating with banks, investors, and other financial stakeholders
  • Advanced knowledge of corporate finance planning, analysis, and reporting
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining complex financial models
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must work with Manager and Human Resources on accommodation plans where required
