About the role
- Legal affairs advisor protecting Desjardins’ legal interests through compliance advice, legal opinions, and court representation. Hybrid role based in Lévis or Montréal.
Responsibilities
- Advise and support the organization’s units and decision-making bodies on initiatives and activities related to the legal affairs function
- Analyze data, conduct studies, make recommendations and write reports
- Interpret laws and regulations, issue legal opinions, and prepare and validate rules, standards, policies, procedures, forms and agreements
- Diagnose issues, challenges and needs to determine target outcomes
- Prepare recommendations, solutions and action plans
- Represent the organization in court
- Draft pleadings, prepare witnesses, deliver oral arguments and negotiate the best possible terms
- Serve as a resource person for the unit, clients and partners
- Advise and assist clients and partners as part of intervention and development initiatives
- Recommend solutions to improve or optimize standards, policies and programs
- Coordinate with stakeholders working in other fields
- Help protect the organization’s legal interests, rights and obligations and ensure compliance with laws
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- A minimum of four years of relevant experience
- Other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
- Knowledge of French is required
