About the role
- Senior legal advisor protecting Desjardins’ legal interests and ensuring regulatory compliance. Leading complex strategic initiatives, litigation, legal opinions, and governance support.
Responsibilities
- Protect the organization’s legal interests by ensuring compliance with all laws
- Help ensure the organization’s rights are protected and obligations are met
- Represent the organization in situations involving its legal interests
- Lead specialized development projects, initiatives and activities with organization-wide impact
- Advise clients and partners on positioning, planning, development, execution and monitoring of strategic projects and initiatives
- Identify, analyze and diagnose major issues and make recommendations to decision-making bodies
- Interpret laws and regulations, issue legal opinions, and prepare and validate rules, standards, policies, procedures, forms and agreements
- Represent the organization in court; develop strategy, draft pleadings, prepare witnesses, deliver oral arguments and negotiate terms on complex matters
- Develop and update policies, standards, models and programs supporting strategic projects and initiatives
- Represent the unit before decision-making bodies
- Serve as expert advisor, subject matter expert, resource person and coach for senior management and decision-making bodies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- A minimum of eight years of relevant experience
