About the role
- Senior legal advisor protecting Desjardins’ legal interests through compliance, litigation, and strategic counsel. Representing the organization in court and advising senior decision-making bodies.
Responsibilities
- Lead specialized development projects, initiatives and activities that significantly impact the entire organization
- Advise clients and partners on positioning, planning, development, execution and monitoring of strategic projects and initiatives
- Identify, analyze, diagnose and address major issues and make recommendations to decision-making bodies
- Interpret laws and regulations and issue legal opinions
- Represent the organization in court, including developing strategy, drafting pleadings, preparing witnesses, delivering oral arguments and negotiating terms
- Develop and update policies, standards, models and programs
- Represent the unit before senior management committees and decision-making bodies
- Serve as expert advisor, subject matter expert, resource person and coach for senior management and decision-making bodies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- A minimum of eight years of relevant experience
- Other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
- Knowledge of French is required
