About the role

  • Senior reserving actuary evaluating insurance liabilities for Desjardins, North America’s largest cooperative financial group. Leading valuation models, regulatory reporting and reserving-process integration for ICPEI.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, manage and analyze actuarial reserves in a complex and evolving business context
  • Work on reserves for the Insurance Company of Prince Edward Island (ICPEI), a Desjardins subsidiary being integrated into DGIG
  • Contribute to continuity of actuarial operations and harmonization of reserving processes
  • Ensure the quality and relevance of analyses supporting decision-making
  • Lead complex and strategic files
  • Formulate recommendations based on rigorous analysis
  • Act as a resource person for various stakeholders
  • Conduct analyses to assess insurance contract liabilities for all products and provinces and ensure data integrity
  • Participate in developing and maintaining valuation models and assumptions for insurance contract liabilities
  • Monitor compliance with legal and professional industry requirements and market developments
  • Ensure actuarial services needs are considered and met
  • Develop and maintain models, analyze results and produce reports for the organization and regulators
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities within the team

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related field
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience in reserving
  • Other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Successful completion of at least six Casualty Actuarial Society exams or two FICA-level exams from the Canadian Institute of Actuaries
  • Property and casualty insurance experience
  • Experience explaining complex actuarial concepts in plain language
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec
  • Advanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Knowledge of SAS, Diva, Guidewire, Snowflake and SQL
  • Available for regional travel, namely Quebec City, Lévis, Montreal, Mississauga, Toronto or Calgary
