About the role

  • Managing Technical Consultant leading aquatic science and environmental programs for ERM, a global sustainability consultancy. Providing technical direction, regulatory support, reporting, and client solutions across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex freshwater and marine aquatic resource programs across Canada
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to project teams conducting field investigations and environmental studies
  • Deliver scientific analyses and reporting supporting environmental assessments, permitting, and regulatory compliance
  • Build relationships with clients and regulatory stakeholders
  • Integrate aquatic science expertise into multidisciplinary environmental projects
  • Support business growth through technical excellence, collaboration, and client service
  • Lead and oversee freshwater and/or marine field programs from planning through execution
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and provide technical guidance
  • Manage project deliverables, schedules, budgets, and quality expectations
  • Compile, manage, review, and analyze water quality, sediment quality, and biological datasets
  • Interpret scientific findings and develop practical recommendations
  • Prepare, review, and deliver technical reports, environmental monitoring reports, permitting documentation, and impact assessments
  • Support data management and quality assurance processes
  • Collaborate with toxicologists, geochemists, hydrologists, fisheries biologists, wildlife biologists, and other specialists
  • Maintain health and safety requirements and participate in the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • Support client relationships and business development activities
  • Travel to project sites and remote locations as required
  • Support multidisciplinary field teams deploying from Yellowknife
  • Support the Area Manager in office management

Requirements

  • BSc in Aquatic Biology, Marine Biology, or similar discipline
  • 4+ years of experience organizing, managing, and executing field programs
  • Boating experience and experience working in remote locations
  • Strong data management, analysis, and presentation skills
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to Health & Safety protocols
  • Expertise with Federal, Provincial, and Territorial regulations and guidelines
  • Excellent writing, communication, and time management skills
  • Ability to lead projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and manage competing priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel and work in remote locations across varied terrain and weather conditions
  • Valid driver's license and/or ability to operate a company vehicle
  • Not eligible for immigration sponsorship
  • Graduate degree in Aquatic Biology, Marine Biology, or similar discipline preferred
  • Experience with aquatic studies involving water quality, sediment quality, fish and biotic communities
  • Experience using R or similar
  • Marine experience
  • CABIN certification
  • Boat operating experience
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting, government, and/or mining, preferably in northern Canada
  • Experience leading environmental monitoring programs, permitting initiatives, and impact assessments
  • Experience mentoring junior scientists and field staff
