About the role

  • Principal Consultant leading mining and resource capital projects for ERM, a global sustainability consultancy. Guiding permitting, Indigenous engagement, closure planning, and multidisciplinary delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support complex resource development projects involving capital project development, social and environmental assessments, permitting, mine closure planning, and mine transition planning
  • Provide technical and strategic leadership and senior-level reviews
  • Deliver technical reports and strategic recommendations for clients
  • Guide stakeholder and Indigenous engagement programs and social impact assessments
  • Support environmental approval, permitting, and regulatory processes
  • Build and strengthen client relationships and identify business growth opportunities
  • Develop stakeholder engagement plans, registers, assessments, tactics, strategies, and activities
  • Implement on-the-ground and virtual outreach programs, workshops, meetings, interviews, open houses, and engagement activities
  • Engage stakeholders, disseminate project information, respond to grievances and feedback, and communicate regulatory updates
  • Prepare responses to stakeholder and Indigenous group concerns and frequently asked questions
  • Oversee quality control for data collection, management, reduction, and analysis
  • Deliver projects within scope, budget, schedule, and quality expectations
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary ERM teams across Canada and globally
  • Expand ERM's profile and market share in the global resource development market
  • Mentor junior and mid-level consulting staff
  • Manage tasks, subcontractors, health and safety, commercial performance, quality reviews, and client relationships when required
  • Support cross-selling and growth of ERM's global resource development services

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, science, economics, social science, public policy, or a related discipline
  • 6+ years of relevant experience, including industry experience and/or stakeholder/Indigenous engagement in Canada, or a related position with a resource development company
  • Experience in mine closure planning, including strategic closure goals, closure objectives, and associated criteria
  • Experience supporting environmental approval and permitting processes for capital projects
  • Experience planning, organizing, and implementing stakeholder engagement activities
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations and training sessions
  • Experience leading or facilitating discussions with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Experience conducting third-party reviews against industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and corporate standards
  • Strong project management skills, including work plans, budgets, schedules, and project controls
  • Team-building skills and experience with diverse teams, including mentorship and/or line management of junior staff
  • Commitment to safety and established health and safety protocols
  • Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver's license and/or ability to operate a company vehicle
  • 10+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Professional registration (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., or P.Ag.) would be an asset
  • Knowledge of project management and integrated consultant and engineering teams
  • Previous consulting experience and strategic advisory or management consulting experience
  • Additional language skills such as French or Spanish are preferred
