About the role

  • Junior hazardous materials technician supporting EXP’s environmental consulting projects in Ottawa. Conducting hazardous-material investigations, sampling, monitoring, and technical reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct building investigations for asbestos, designated substances, mold, lead, and other hazardous materials
  • Perform hazardous materials surveys and assessments in commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential buildings
  • Collect air, bulk, dust, and other environmental samples during investigations and abatement projects
  • Provide field support for hazardous materials abatement and remediation projects, including site inspections and air monitoring
  • Assist with building condition assessments and building science-related investigations
  • Support environmental projects through field investigations, site visits, drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation monitoring
  • Interpret laboratory analytical results and field observations
  • Prepare technical reports, field notes, drawings, and project documentation
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project teams in English and French
  • Maintain health and safety standards and procedures while conducting field work

Requirements

  • College diploma or university degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Building Science, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in hazardous materials consulting, environmental services, building science, or a related field
  • Bilingual in English and French (written and verbal) is required
  • Previous experience working in hazardous materials consulting and/or building science is considered a major asset
  • Knowledge of asbestos, mold, designated substances, lead, indoor air quality assessments, and related regulations is an asset
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in a client-focused environment with demonstrated customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required
