About the role

Responsibilities
- Participate in the full transaction process, from development and structuring through negotiation and documentation
- Identify underlying issues in matters requiring risk mitigation measures, while taking EDC’s perspective and expertise into account
- Draft legal documents
- Address asset management matters relating to financing products, including waivers, consents, and amendments
- Provide legal advice on various matters related to EDC’s activities
- Interpret documents and internal policies in areas of specialization
- Advise on authorization and compliance requirements and interpret relevant legislation
- Retain and supervise external legal counsel in Canada and abroad
- Review and annotate documents and recommendations prepared by external legal counsel
- Actively support EDC’s activities, as well as sector and legal teams, through collaboration and teamwork
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in law
- Membership in the bar of a Canadian province and authorization in good standing to practise law as a lawyer throughout all Canadian provinces and territories
- At least 3 years of relevant legal experience (Legal Services 17) or 5 years of relevant legal experience (Legal Services 18)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced drafting skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, as well as a high volume of work and transactions, effectively
- Demonstrated ability to practise law and proactively mitigate risk in a dynamic, commercial environment
- Strong business acumen and excellent decision-making skills
- Collaborative approach and willingness to seek input from colleagues
- Strong persuasion and negotiation skills
- Fluency in both official languages is considered an asset
- Ability to work legally in Canada at the time of application is preferred
- Ability to meet government security requirements
