Seasonal patrol technician maintaining Ontario highways, roads, and infrastructure for Ferrovial’s Webber. Supervising winter maintenance, inspecting work, coordinating crews, and responding to hazards and emergencies.
Responsibilities
Maintain contracted assets including roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, and vegetation according to contract standards
Perform shift supervisor duties during the winter maintenance season
Organize and plan daily and weekly work activities
Arrange appropriate equipment, materials, and labor
Oversee operations, safety compliance, standards, policies, procedures, and value for money
Provide leadership and safety training to junior Webber staff
Inspect contract staff work and report deficiencies and performance to the supervisor
Advise the supervisor on work performance, training, planning, and traffic control
Complete, review, and maintain records related to equipment, hours, materials, inspections, expenses, accidents, and injuries
Assist with weekly, monthly, and annual work plans
Provide information for contractor or public claims analysis
Liaise with property owners, the public, police, municipal authorities, Ontario Government Ministries, and utility companies
Operate patrol equipment and perform laboring tasks when necessary
Act for the supervisor during absences
Compile highway and road inventory information
Investigate, report on, and resolve complaints
Patrol roads and report hazards or deficiencies
Initiate contract staff call-outs and administer hired equipment tenders
Respond to accidents, spills, inclement weather, and emergency plans
Comply with legal requirements and company policies

Requirements
High School Diploma (Required)
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industry repair, maintenance or landscaping/outdoor work (Preferred)
Valid Ontario Class “DZ” Driver’s License
MTO Operator’s Permit
Acceptable driving record
Working knowledge of summer and winter maintenance operations
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it relates to maintenance activities
Working knowledge of maintenance and maintenance-related construction contracts and agreements
Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Verbal and written communication skills sufficient to prepare reports, recommendations, and rationale statements
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
Investigative and analytical skills for researching claims, analyzing technical data, evaluating viewpoints, and assessing claims objectively
Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and critical path scheduling software
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Working knowledge of environmental requirements and regulations
Strong safety awareness and ability to recognize and avoid hazards
Ability to communicate safety instructions
Ability to focus on safety while using tools and equipment, driving, or operating equipment
Willingness and ability to wear job-appropriate PPE
