- Seasonal patrol technician maintaining Ontario highways for Ferrovial’s Webber infrastructure-management business. Supervising maintenance operations, inspecting contractor work and responding to roadway hazards and emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Maintain contracted roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation and other assets according to contract standards
- Perform shift-supervisor duties during the winter maintenance season
- Organize and plan daily and weekly work, equipment, materials and labor
- Oversee operations for value, safety and compliance with standards, policies and procedures
- Provide leadership and safety training to junior Webber staff
- Inspect contract work, identify deficiencies and report contractor performance
- Advise the supervisor on performance, training, planning and traffic control
- Complete, review and maintain records for equipment, hours, materials, inspections, expenses, incidents and usage
- Assist with weekly, monthly and annual work-plan preparation and monitoring
- Provide information for contractor or public claims analysis
- Liaise with property owners, the public, police, municipalities, Ontario ministries and utility companies
- Operate patrol equipment and perform laboring tasks when necessary
- Act for the supervisor during absences
- Compile highway and road inventory information
- Investigate, report on and resolve complaints where possible
- Patrol assigned roads and report hazards or deficiencies
- Initiate contract-staff call-outs and administer hired-equipment tenders
- Respond for the Ministry and Webber during accidents, spills, inclement weather and emergency-plan activations
- Comply with legal requirements and company policies and procedures

Requirements
- High School Diploma (Required)
- Minimum three years’ experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, maintenance or landscaping/outdoor work (Preferred)
- Valid Ontario Class “DZ” Driver’s License
- MTO Operator’s Permit
- Acceptable driving record
- Working knowledge of summer and winter maintenance operations
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it relates to maintenance activities
- Working knowledge of maintenance and maintenance-related construction contracts and agreements
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Verbal and written communication skills for reports, recommendations and rationale statements
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
- Investigative and analytical skills for claims research and technical-data analysis
- Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, database, email and critical-path scheduling software
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of environmental requirements and safety regulations
- Strong safety awareness and ability to recognize and mitigate hazards
- Ability to communicate safety instructions
- Ability to focus on safety while using tools, equipment and vehicles
- Ability to wear job-appropriate PPE
- Ability to work in extreme heat and cold, wet/humid conditions, elevated places, airborne particles, chemicals, insects and occasional reptiles/rodents
