About the role

  • Forward Deployed Engineer migrating telecom customer data onto gaiia’s operating system for communications service providers. Owning discovery, technical execution, cutover, and stabilization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct discovery sessions to understand customers’ legacy environments, source systems, data models, and OSS/BSS layers
  • Assess and design migration approaches, documenting scope, data mappings, constraints, and cutover strategies
  • Help customers and internal stakeholders understand migration trade-offs and priorities
  • Explore unfamiliar source systems and extract data via SQL, APIs, manual exports, and backups
  • Transform data into gaiia’s standard format using declarative mapping files
  • Load and validate data against target schemas, reconcile results, and import data
  • Plan and run cutovers, including delta migrations, downtime considerations, and rollback
  • Monitor production data and resolve discrepancies after go-live
  • Own migration relationships end-to-end from discovery through post-cutover stabilization
  • Build repeatable processes and reusable assets such as templates, mapping rules, and playbooks
  • Act as a subject matter expert for internal teams on customer data and migration considerations
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to influence the migration tooling roadmap
  • Contribute engineering improvements to migration tooling

Requirements

  • 4–6+ years of experience spanning customer-facing implementation/solutioning and hands-on data or software engineering
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Strong TypeScript/JavaScript (Node) skills
  • Strong command of ETL fundamentals, including staging, repeatable/idempotent loads, full versus incremental loads, validation, and reconciliation
  • Track record owning technical projects with external stakeholders, including scope, timelines, and expectations
  • Experience with messy, poorly documented legacy systems
  • Familiarity with OSS/BSS, telecom, or billing/CRM data models, or ability to ramp quickly on unfamiliar domain models
  • Excellent communication across technical and non-technical audiences, including clients
  • Comfortable making decisions on technical and customer trade-offs
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
  • Ability to travel occasionally in the US for key customer engagements and go-lives
