Field Technician performing materials testing and geotechnical investigations for GHD’s transport and infrastructure projects. Conducting field, laboratory, and construction site testing.
Responsibilities
Complete Quality Assurance and Quality Control on-site testing services
Conduct compaction testing during site grading and backfilling operations
Sample soil and aggregates for laboratory analysis
Conduct field concrete and asphalt sampling and testing for building, road, and infrastructure projects
Assist with coordination efforts and support field staff with investigative works, including concrete coring, specialized testing, test pit investigations, geotechnical drilling, and site data collection
Test soil, aggregate, and concrete samples in the laboratory to determine engineering properties
Perform laboratory testing including standard Proctor testing, Atterberg limit testing, grain size analysis, moisture content determination, and compressive strength testing of concrete cylinders
Operate under the supervision and mentorship of civil and geotechnical engineering professionals
Perform a mix of field and office-based activities supporting construction projects and geotechnical investigations
Requirements
3 to 7 years of experience performing materials testing and geotechnical engineering field services
Diploma in Civil, Geotechnical, or related Engineering Technology college program
Other relevant education and industry work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Registration with OACETT for C.Tech or C.E.T. designations is preferred
Strong interpersonal and customer service communication skills
Capacity and willingness to learn new skills and testing procedures
Access to a personal vehicle
Valid driver’s license to carry out site inspections
Competent with Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS Word and MS Excel
Ability to lift and carry 23.7 kg (50 lbs.)
Willingness to work a regular 40-hour work week and possible overtime up to a limit of 13 hours total per day
Willingness to travel up to 200 km per day using personal vehicle
Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
