About the role
- Senior Electrical Engineer leading high-voltage design and delivery for GHD’s Canadian engineering, energy, and infrastructure projects. Coordinating multidisciplinary teams, construction support, commissioning, and client delivery.
Responsibilities
- Support proposal requests, develop design and construction fees, and write proposal reports
- Complete facility condition assessments, write reports, and participate in client meetings
- Lead technical design teams on large, complex projects as discipline lead
- Prepare detailed electrical design drawing packages covering utility interconnection, substations, overhead pole lines, protection and coordination, HV/MV and LV distribution, motor control, standby power, instrumentation and control, building services, DC systems, grounding, and equipment layouts
- Complete and review electrical design calculations
- Prepare contract documentation, equipment specifications, schedules, installation specifications, procurement documents, requisitions, scopes of work, bills of materials, and process narratives
- Coordinate electrical designs with process, mechanical, civil, structural, and other electrical teams, vendors, and external design teams
- Direct and coordinate internal designers/drafters
- Lead electrical project teams through project phases and monitor schedules, quality, and budgets
- Perform technical reviews, quality control, and professional sealing of technical documents
- Support tendering and construction through RFIs, site support, shop drawing reviews, technical report evaluations, inspections, testing plans, change orders, and project meetings
- Lead client meetings and present design options and system functionality
- Mentor junior staff
- Ensure compliance with Canadian electrical codes, standards, and regulations
- Liaise with clients and approving authorities
- Manage client relationships and identify follow-on growth opportunities
- Collaborate across regions, disciplines, and global design centers
Requirements
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
- 10+ years of experience in the design and implementation of electrical systems including high- and medium-voltage substations, motors and drives, power distribution, power generation, and grid optimization
- Working knowledge of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration
- Good working knowledge of Alberta/BC Electrical Safety Code and other relevant industry standards and regulations
- Understanding of HV, MV and LV power distribution design concepts, equipment and personnel safety strategies, and electrical system protection theories and applications
- Licensure in other provinces or jurisdictions considered an asset
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation considered an asset
- Experience leading medium-to-large electrical design teams considered an asset
- Experience in project delivery within a multi-disciplinary engineering/architecture consulting firm considered an asset
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
