About the role
- Senior Backend Developer building scalable Python, AWS, and API systems for GHGSat’s satellite emissions-monitoring services. Maintaining highly available web services and shaping user-focused features.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the full application lifecycle, focusing on developing features and delivering value to users
- Develop, test, integrate, and deploy backend and API stacks
- Maintain and ensure high availability of GHGSat web services, both externally and internally
- Collaborate with developers, designers, QA, and Product Owners to identify and shape new features
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Proven track record of building and shipping scalable web applications that drive user value
- Strong experience with Python
- Experience designing and implementing services in the cloud (AWS)
- Experience deploying containerized applications with Docker and/or Kubernetes
- Experience with databases and ETL systems (PostgreSQL)
- Test-driven development mindset
- Solid CI/CD and documentation practices
- Python web frameworks such as Django or FastAPI (desired)
- Python ETL tooling such as pandas, SQLAlchemy, or dbt (desired)
- Deployment tooling such as Argo within a Kubernetes environment (desired)
- Comfort working in a Linux environment (desired)
- Entrepreneurial energy and determination (desired)
- Interest in remote sensing systems and space (desired)
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must meet the requirements of the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
