About the role

  • Software Engineering Manager leading General Motors’ vehicle data platform across Android, Linux, and QNX. Owning ECU-to-cloud software delivery, architecture, reliability, and production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, and develop a team of software engineers; set goals, give feedback, and manage performance and career growth.
  • Own delivery of control plane, data plane, SDK, and unified logging infrastructure software across Android, Linux, and QNX, from planning through release and field support.
  • Set technical direction and make architecture and design decisions with the team.
  • Participate in design work, code and test case reviews, and prototyping.
  • Enforce standards for reliability, performance, data privacy, and resource use on production ECUs.
  • Define and scale engineering practices, including unit and integration testing, documentation, and release criteria.
  • Define roadmaps with application teams and product stakeholders based on fleet data requirements.
  • Partner with platform, cloud, DevOps, cybersecurity, and privacy teams on software and configuration rollouts, integration, alignment, adoption, and data governance.
  • Report status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and partner teams.
  • Own production operational accountability, including health metrics, incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Mentor engineers and grow technical leads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years in software development or systems engineering across Android, Linux, and/or QNX.
  • 2+ years managing software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Coding proficiency in C, C++, and/or Java/Kotlin for Android, with experience in platform level integrations.
  • Experience delivering software on production ECUs or other devices with limited CPU, memory, storage, and bandwidth.
  • Experience with control plane or fleet management software, data collection and transfer pipelines, logging or telemetry software, or SDKs and libraries used by other teams.
  • Experience designing telemetry for operational visibility and remote control at fleet scale.
  • Experience scaling data flows from ECU to cloud.
  • Track record of delivering critical software with requirements for reliability, performance, and data privacy.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives across teams, including teams outside your reporting line.
  • Technical communication and design documentation skills, with the ability to present status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership.
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
