About the role

  • Senior thermal power engineer leading due diligence and engineering advisory for DNV’s gas generation clients. Evaluating plant performance, contracts, reliability, and lifecycle risk across North America.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the thermal technical lead across advisory engagements involving gas turbines, steam turbines, boiler systems, reciprocating engines, emerging thermal technologies, and balance-of-plant systems
  • Lead technical evaluations of thermal assets and portfolios, identifying key risks, value drivers, and lifecycle considerations
  • Assess plant condition and performance using operating history, outage and maintenance records, heat rate and efficiency trends, dispatch profiles, and asset management practices
  • Evaluate reliability, degradation mechanisms, and maintenance strategies using practical engineering and operational experience
  • Support technical due diligence, independent engineering, and owner’s engineering scopes
  • Review plant design and major equipment configurations
  • Evaluate technical aspects of EPC and O&M agreements
  • Validate technical inputs to financial models, including CapEx, OpEx, performance, and degradation
  • Participate in site visits, field assessments, and technical interviews
  • Translate real-world operating experience into clear, actionable insights for developers, owners, lenders, and investors
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients across the project lifecycle

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related discipline)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in thermal power generation
  • Deep knowledge of plant design, operating cycles, and performance characteristics across conventional and flexible assets, such as combined-cycle and simple-cycle plants
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate plant performance, reliability, and operational risk, including heat rate, outages, maintenance strategies, and lifecycle considerations
  • Familiarity with the energy project lifecycle and major EPC and O&M contracts and their impact on technical and commercial risk
  • Ability to translate complex technical issues into clear, structured insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong AI and digital fluency, including evaluating AI-generated outputs, applying critical thinking, ensuring quality and accuracy, and using AI responsibly within governance frameworks
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 15% of the time
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Required to serve customers in Quebec, the rest of Canada, and the United States
  • Successful pre-employment drug and background screening required
