About the role

  • Construction Project Manager delivering Hamilton’s water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Leading design, construction, consultants, budgets, schedules and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the development, design, construction implementation and execution of capital infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater facilities
  • Lead the development and administration of design and construction projects
  • Liaise with consultants, contractors, elected officials, government representatives, regulatory authorities, management, staff and the general public
  • Oversee project scope, quality, schedule and budget
  • Ensure design and construction activities comply with City, Provincial and Federal guidelines, regulations and standards
  • Direct in-house staff and consultants in water and wastewater project administration
  • Monitor project quality, cost-effective and timely delivery, legislative compliance and program initiatives
  • Formulate designs, prepare schedules and guide technical staff
  • Assist with annual project budgets by preparing project cost estimates
  • Administer proposals, engineering documents and contract documents for tender calls
  • Organize engineering activities for regulatory approvals and facilitate approvals with internal and external agencies
  • Administer consultants and contractors and recommend and implement project work standards
  • Administer construction project commissioning activities, including construction as-built records
  • Monitor projects to ensure completion within schedules, approved budgets and spending authority
  • Recommend required budget adjustments to the Senior Project Manager
  • Manage consultant and contractor performance, including performance appraisals and contract reviews
  • Provide technical direction to subordinate staff
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Degree in civil engineering or an engineering technologist diploma, or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of project management theories
  • Experience managing large multi-discipline water/wastewater design and construction projects
  • Knowledge and experience in municipal water/wastewater vertical infrastructure design and construction
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Membership with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) or Certified Engineering Technologist is preferred
  • Ability to prepare/coordinate engineering proposals and construction contract documents for tender calls
  • Leadership, technical competence, customer focus, innovation/creativity, team advocacy, staff delegation, empowerment and results orientation
  • Ability to deal effectively with elected officials, government representatives, regulatory authorities, management, staff and the general public
  • Thorough knowledge of statutes, regulations and by-laws affecting the department/section
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications
  • Provision of a car by individual for use on the job
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence required
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check required before beginning work, at the successful applicant’s expense
