About the role
- Mechatronics intern building Human Computer Lab’s character robots. Bridging mechanical prototyping, controls, calibration, and test-rig integration for LeLamp.
Responsibilities
- Build and iterate on prototyping rigs, including mechanical assembly, wiring, and basic controls integration
- Perform lower-level controls tasks, including sensor wiring, calibration, and simple test scripts
- Support mechanical design tasks, including CAD iteration, fixture design, and fit checks
- Run reliability and test-rig cycles
- Troubleshoot integration issues
- Translate mechanical design changes into controls adjustments
- Document test results and communicate issues clearly to the team
Requirements
- Pursuing a degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Some exposure to CAD (SolidWorks, Onshape, Fusion360, or similar) and basic controls/embedded work
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, machining, microcontrollers, or simple test rigs
- Comfortable jumping into unfamiliar systems and creating order through chaos
- Holistic systems thinking and creative problem-solving
- Hands-on prototyping orientation rather than narrow specialization
- Ability to move quickly in rapid iteration cycles
- Ability to work well in small, collaborative teams without much day-to-day mentorship
- Curiosity, resourcefulness, and motivation to solve difficult problems
