About the role

  • Claims Specialist managing complex property claims for Intact, a Canadian insurer. Investigating coverage, assessing damage, negotiating settlements, and coordinating claims specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, manage, and settle high-complexity property and various claims
  • Provide superior customer service to external and internal customers
  • Analyze gathered information, interpret insurance policy wording, determine coverage, and assess damage
  • Negotiate with customers, claimants, lawyers, and insurers within established authority limits
  • Manage claim costs efficiently and effectively
  • Gather factual versions of claim circumstances from insureds, third parties, and other stakeholders
  • Assist in evaluating and negotiating large losses
  • Anticipate recoveries and direct investigations accordingly
  • Collaborate with claims and underwriting departments and outside specialists
  • Build relationships with rely partners, engineers, appraisers, underwriting, and legal teams
  • Adhere to company standards and guidelines for file documentation
  • Manage external fees and costs
  • Keep current on insurance products and appraisal, investigation, and service techniques

Requirements

  • University degree or any combination of training and experience deemed relevant for the role
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in Property Claims Adjusting
  • High-level knowledge of Xactimate
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mitigation (IICRC), construction, and repair procedures
  • Effective verbal communication skills, including interviewing, coaching others, and dealing with clients
  • Good written communication skills for drafting claims reports
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada from the anticipated start date and throughout employment
  • Responsible for maintaining work eligibility in Canada
