About the role

1st Class Power Engineer operating boiler and ammonia refrigeration systems at JBS Canada's Brooks beef-processing facility. Reducing energy use, leading safety, and delivering plant improvement projects.

Responsibilities

Ensure total care and control of the Boiler Room and associated ancillary equipment
Ensure total care and control of a large ammonia refrigerated plant
Conduct daily plant inspections of ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems
Ensure all systems operate safely and efficiently
Record data and relevant information regarding plant operations under the Chief Engineer's jurisdiction
Reduce gas, electricity, water, and ammonia consumption
Undertake capital projects to improve plant operating performance in consultation with the Maintenance Manager
Provide leadership by establishing safety objectives and measurements
Conduct detailed diagnostic audits of each plant using various processes and techniques
Provide coaching and direction to the plant management team
Take on additional responsibilities as required

Valid (ABSA Certified) 1st Class Engineering certificate
4–5 years of experience in a managerial position
Knowledge of governmental and regulatory agencies
Demonstrated supervisory experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Complete knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and natural gas fired steam boiler systems
Familiarity with system computer interfacing
Knowledge of PLC systems
Past experience working in a preventative maintenance program
Ability to ensure safe and efficient operations of boiler plant and large ammonia refrigeration system
Applicants must complete a pre-hire medical and drug and alcohol test

Ability to work in a noisy environment with odours and hot, cold/refrigerated conditions
