About the role

2nd Class Power Engineer operating boilers and ammonia refrigeration systems at JBS Canada’s Brooks beef-processing facility. Improving plant safety, efficiency, maintenance, and energy consumption.

Responsibilities

Ensure total care and control of the Boiler Room and associated ancillary equipment
Ensure total care and control of a large ammonia refrigerated plant
Conduct daily plant inspections of ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems
Ensure all systems operate safely and efficiently
Record data and relevant operational information under the Chief Engineer’s jurisdiction
Reduce gas, electricity, water, and ammonia consumption
Undertake capital projects to improve plant operating performance in consultation with the Maintenance Manager
Provide leadership by instilling safety objectives and measurements
Conduct detailed diagnostic audits using various processes and techniques
Provide coaching and direction to the plant management team
Take on additional responsibilities as required

Valid ABSA Certified 2nd Class Engineering certificate
Proven team leader and team player
Commitment to excellence and positive attitude
Familiarity with government and regulatory agencies
Demonstrated supervisory experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems
Knowledge of natural gas-fired steam boiler systems
Familiarity with system computer interfacing
Knowledge of PLC systems
Past experience working in a preventative maintenance program
Ability to ensure safe and efficient operation of a boiler plant and large ammonia refrigeration system
Ability to work in a noisy, odorous, hot, cold, and refrigerated work site environment
