About the role

  • Biomechanical Engineer investigating injury biomechanics and accident reconstruction for J.S. Held, a global consulting firm. Managing projects, expert testimony, technical reporting, and client business development across the USA or Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering projects and project teams of engineers, scientists, and technicians
  • Conduct unbiased field investigations and testing of incidents and/or loss events
  • Investigate and analyze biomechanical and injury-related aspects of engineering projects
  • Provide technical findings, analysis, and conclusions verbally or in writing, in a timely manner and in laymen’s terms
  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities
  • Travel for client meetings, field work, marketing, and business development
  • Maintain communication with clients and project teams regarding project status and scope
  • Maintain technical and professional knowledge through continuing education, workshops, seminars, publications, and professional organizations
  • Meet or exceed assigned performance metrics and goals
  • Serve as an expert witness, including testifying in court
  • Mentor and train junior engineers
  • Participate in informative presentations for clients and peers

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field required
  • Ph.D. in Biomechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-academic industry engineering experience required; 10+ preferred
  • Knowledge and experience in injury biomechanics
  • Prior consulting experience
  • Strong interest in accident reconstruction
  • Willingness to serve as an expert witness and testify in court
  • Experience in technical reports required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to deliver results
  • Mathematical and technological aptitude
  • Skilled with software and technical systems
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new environments or scenarios
  • Willingness and ability to obtain additional licensure and certification
  • Ability to work remotely or while travelling to different job sites
  • Ability and willingness to travel to different regions with reliable transportation and air travel capability
  • Ability to maneuver in and around an accident site
  • ACTAR certification preferred
  • Professional engineering licensure, or eligibility to obtain, preferred
  • Experience managing small projects and teams preferred
