About the role
- Resident Maintenance Technician maintaining KNAPP’s automated logistics equipment in Varennes, Canada. Troubleshooting PLC-based machinery, robotics, conveyors, and electromechanical systems for customers.
Responsibilities
- Provide industrial electrical and mechanical expertise as part of a team maximizing equipment utilization and efficiency
- Rectify electromechanical faults and provide specialist technical assistance
- Respond to emergency calls at customer sites
- Provide emergency breakdown and specialist maintenance support
- Set up and calibrate precision automation equipment
- Install conveyor and precision automation equipment
- Provide first-class customer response and pursue first-time-right repairs
- Build effective relationships with customers and their operational agents
- Train the customer's maintenance team as required
- Maintain quality of service through effective customer communication
- Prepare well-written and legible reports
- Execute site quality, safety and statutory procedures
- Participate in meetings with the Maintenance Shift Supervisor, Resident Site Manager, Site Maintenance Manager or Resident Business Manager regarding activities and progress
- Provide specialist maintenance support for the customer's installed system
- Log spare-parts usage issues promptly with the KNAPP Spare Parts team
- Care for and maintain tooling and equipment
- Submit accurate, legible timesheets and documents biweekly for approval
- Interact with onsite management regarding repair and maintenance progress and concerns
- Take hands-on ownership of issues to achieve quick resolution
- Troubleshoot and maintain PLC-based machinery, automated and robotic equipment, and control systems
- Work weekends and overtime as required
Requirements
- Associate degree preferably in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation or related, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- 0-3 years direct experience preferred
- 0-3 years demonstrated experience repairing machinery systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Experience utilizing 480VAC, 240VAC, 120VAC, 48VDC and 24VDC, VFDs, and PLCs (Siemens preferred)
- 0-3 years experience in equipment maintenance, modifications and design preferred
- Theoretical and operational experience repairing, troubleshooting and maintaining PLC-based machinery, highly automated and robotic equipment, and control systems
- Experience in mechanical strip-down/reassembly, basic field wiring, machine calibration and system testing
- Mechanical aptitude, including ability to read assembly drawings
- Ability to operate hand tools and assemble parts onto equipment
- Ability to follow setup instructions, assembly drawings and checklists
- Ability to work against a timeframe to complete reactive repairs
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and appreciate health and safety considerations
- Computer literacy with basic Microsoft Office skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and process-oriented mentality
- Hands-on experience and commitment to improving processes
- Experience reducing costs through processes and efficiencies
- Network equipment interfaces are a plus
- Bilingual English/Spanish and/or English/German preferred but not required
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changing role requirements
- Occasional travel required
- Authorization to work in Canada
- Passport or ability to obtain passport
- Professional office etiquette required at all times
- Ability to sit, squat, walk, reach to arm's length, reach overhead, lift 50–100 pounds, and read
