About the role

  • Staff Engineer leading scalable software architecture for Ledgebrook, an InsurTech MGA modernizing specialty insurance. Building underwriting, rating, claims, and LLM-powered workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical leader for software spanning multiple business and engineering workflows
  • Shape architecture and technical direction across underwriting, rating, claims, and shared services
  • Lead design reviews and advise teams on complex design and implementation decisions
  • Drive wide-reaching technical initiatives end to end and communicate their value, status, and progress
  • Design and implement critical frontend and backend components using TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, and Python
  • Deep-dive into complex systems while connecting technical excellence to business outcomes
  • Partner with product managers, designers, engineering managers, and domain experts to create scalable solutions
  • Raise engineering quality through design documentation, code review, observability, and CI/CD practices
  • Mentor senior engineers, unblock teams, transfer institutional knowledge, and develop staff-level impact
  • Apply build-vs-buy judgment and prioritize technology investments that improve underwriting and rating/data capabilities
  • Design and ship LLM-powered workflows to improve underwriter and operator productivity

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including demonstrated Staff-level (or equivalent) impact
  • Proven leadership of ambiguous, multi-quarter technical bets spanning teams
  • Ability to design end-to-end systems and data models from business domain use cases
  • Strong systems mindset focused on extensibility, scalability, performance, maintainability, testability, and operability
  • Track record of elevating peers through architecture reviews, mentorship, and technical communication
  • Strong full-stack fluency; TypeScript/JavaScript and Python preferred
  • Experience with CI/CD, including GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or similar
  • Production debugging and observability experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to influence across engineering, product, and business partners
  • Ability to break down complex, ambiguous technical work into deliverable pieces and sequence it by value and dependency
  • Prior startup or high-growth experience (nice to have)
  • Experience with insurance, fintech, or other regulated domains (nice to have)
  • Experience with JS/TS, HTML, CSS/SCSS, React, Angular, and Node.js (nice to have)
  • Experience integrating third-party platforms (nice to have)
  • Candidates in the U.S. must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
  • Candidates in Poland must be authorized to work in Poland without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
  • Candidates in Canada must be authorized to work in Canada without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
