- Data Engineer building Azure ETL/ELT pipelines and governed data architecture for Manulife’s financial services business. Supporting scalable analytics, automation, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and other relevant services
- Develop and maintain data architecture, including data models, schemas, and data dictionaries
- Integrate data from various sources and ensure data quality and consistency
- Prepare data for analytical and operational use
- Follow data governance policies and processes to ensure security, privacy, and compliance
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business team members to understand requirements and develop solutions
- Stay current with tools and technologies and identify opportunities to enhance data infrastructure
- Learn and implement big data and cloud computing best practices
- Develop and maintain automation to streamline operations and improve efficiency
Requirements
- 4 or more years of relevant industry experience as a Data Engineer
- Experience building and operationalizing data pipelines in Microsoft Azure using Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks
- Experience implementing and supporting data governance solutions using Databricks Unity Catalog
- Experience with metadata management, data lineage, auditing, fine-grained access controls, data discovery, and secure data sharing
- Experience automating data pipelines and familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure services, including SQL, ADLS Gen2, ADF, Databricks, Synapse, and SQL Server
- Experience designing scalable data ecosystems
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and relational data modeling
- Experience with Python, SQL, Java, and/or Scala
- Understanding of Agile Scrum methodologies and experience working within Agile teams
- Experience in data processing, performance tuning, monitoring, and capacity planning
- Familiarity with production release and operational support models
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
