About the role

  • Senior Analyst validating financial risk models for Manulife, an international financial services provider. Assessing model adequacy, implementation, risks, and regulatory policy compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Assess models' adequacy and appropriateness for objectives, assumptions, practices, and company policies
  • Ensure models are mathematically sound, follow industry standards, are implemented correctly, and perform adequately
  • Conduct independent research and develop benchmark models to validate submitted models
  • Evaluate model risks from assumptions, target applications, and implementation limitations
  • Recommend risk mitigation measures
  • Document model validation outcomes and communicate findings to stakeholders and model risk leaders
  • Ensure business units comply with the Model Risk Policy
  • Provide documentation for independent validation and govern the model lifecycle
  • Participate in the model inventory process
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as needed

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD degree in a quantitative discipline such as Math, Finance, Economics, Physics, or Engineering
  • 1 year or more of experience in financial mathematics modeling
  • Expertise in stochastic and other numerical techniques
  • Proficiency in quantitative modeling of interest rates, inflation, foreign exchange rates, equities, and commodities for derivative pricing and risk computation
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB, C++, VBA, or Python
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of financial derivative valuation
  • Proven organizational, team-building, and relationship-building abilities across business functions
  • Team player
  • If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both English and French is required to support clients from various provinces outside Québec
  • Previous model validation experience preferred
  • CFA or FRM/PRM preferred
