About the role

  • VP Engineering leading AI-first strategy, architecture, delivery, and team growth at Marble. Scaling consent-based access to health, legal, and other regulated data.

Responsibilities

  • Set and socialize technical strategy and architectural-ownership models across Medchart and SettliT
  • Install engineering operating rhythms for planning, estimation, code review, releases, and incident management
  • Establish norms, guardrails, and playbooks for an AI-first engineering operating model
  • Define the future engineering organization structure and hiring plan
  • Raise technical standards and clarify career paths for senior and intermediate engineers
  • Improve quality assurance and release gates while keeping regulated workflows audit-ready
  • Lead architecture reviews and challenge technical assumptions
  • Coach, invest in, and unblock engineers as a player-coach leader
  • Report directly to the CEO and serve on the Senior Leadership Team
  • Partner with Product, Operations, Sales, and Data Partnerships
  • Drive AI-first transformation across the engineering organization

Requirements

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, including significant time leading engineering teams
  • Deep technical and architectural ability
  • Experience in a cloud-native, regulated environment
  • Comfort operating in and around the Azure ecosystem
  • Track record of embedding AI into engineering
  • Experience bringing discipline to a lean team without slowing it down
  • Executive-level cross-functional partnership and clear communication
  • Greater Toronto Area preferred, with regular time at the downtown Toronto office
  • Canadian candidates only
  • Background check required
  • HealthTech, Health Data, LegalTech, InsurTech, FinTech, or another regulated-industry background is a bonus
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, PHIPA, SOC 2, consent/authorization frameworks, FHIR, CCDA, claims, pharmacy, and EHR is a bonus
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations and leading distributed teams is a bonus
  • Hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI, GitHub Copilot, and AI evaluation frameworks is a bonus
  • API, data infrastructure, platform-product, or data-orchestration experience is a bonus
