About the role
- Senior Software Engineer building data partitioning, movement, and dynamic-scaling infrastructure for MongoDB’s distributed database platform. Designing scalable systems and leading features in C++.
Responsibilities
- Build core distributed-database infrastructure and tools that enable customers to scale workloads beyond a single node
- Collaboratively design and build distributed machinery that unifies query-processing and storage nodes into a single database system
- Develop data-movement and dynamic-scaling features
- Improve horizontal scaling, cluster elasticity, and workload execution
- Solve complex performance problems
- Design protocols for moving and placing data without disruption
- Understand MongoDB architecture and team components, and resolve bugs
- Contribute to projects slated for MongoDB releases
- Perform code reviews and participate in design reviews
- Lead development of new features
- Mentor new engineers
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building distributed systems
- Experience building production-level C++ code with a large user base, robust design structure, and rigorous code quality
- Degree in Computer Science or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
- Passion for system design for large-scale distributed systems, with hands-on or academic experience in the domain
- Understanding of modern computer architecture and internals
- Demonstrated industry success or academic research in high-performance/low-latency networking, performance tuning, distributed systems, system observability, or system resiliency
