About the role
- Senior Backend Engineer scaling Norbert’s autonomous healthcare-robotics backend. Owning AWS infrastructure, APIs, EMR integrations, security, and compliance for deployed care robots.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement a unified, domain-driven backend across multiple interconnected systems
- Own and evolve AWS cloud infrastructure for IoT devices and robotic platforms
- Design and maintain internal, enterprise, and device-streaming APIs
- Build and maintain healthcare interoperability connectors and EMR integrations
- Develop and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines
- Own compliance and security posture, including documentation, cybersecurity, and privacy
- Make critical architecture decisions defining how the system scales
- Collaborate with the VP of Engineering and engineers across AI, firmware, Android, product, and operations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant field
- 10+ years of experience in backend development (5+ years minimum with strong alignment to role expectations)
- Strong coding skills in Python (primary language)
- Solid experience with AWS and containerization (Docker)
- Experience with MongoDB and API design (NoSQL, REST)
- Experience architecting systems that coordinate multiple services and data sources
- Ability to make, document, and communicate architecture decisions
- Comfort owning compliance-adjacent work (documentation, security, privacy)
- Experience with monitoring and incident management (e.g., Datadog)
- Strong communication skills and genuine team spirit
- Experience with healthcare compliance (ISO 13485, IEC 62304)
- Familiarity with Go or C++
- Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes)
- Frontend/dashboard experience (Retool, Vue.js)
