About the role
- Financial Business Partner advising Okanagan College leaders on strategic budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and controls. Supervising an Accounting Analyst and supporting institutional financial strategy.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic financial advisor to administrators and leaders within Okanagan College
- Develop, analyze, and implement financial frameworks and initiatives supporting operational objectives
- Monitor financial effectiveness and efficiency across assigned portfolios and institute changes as necessary
- Advise on financial policies and procedures
- Coordinate and oversee development and implementation of financial systems, policies, and procedures
- Develop short- and long-range financial plans with portfolio and department leadership
- Coordinate and review annual budgets, quarterly variance analyses, and forecasts
- Act as liaison between portfolios or departments and Finance
- Provide financial advice, support, and assistance to portfolio and department staff
- Lead financial reporting from transactional details through management reports
- Monitor and review internal controls to maximize efficiency and mitigate risks
- Participate in strategic, budget, resource, and staffing processes
- Research issues, develop recommendations, and implement solutions for sensitive and special projects
- Provide finance-related mentoring and education and participate in campus-wide training
- Establish financial indicators and monitor performance
- Supervise the Accounting Analyst, including duties, training, performance management, scheduling, and recruitment support
- Lead, guide, and motivate staff
- Collaborate with directors, managers, People Services, and other Finance Services Business Partners
- Participate on College committees and perform other related duties
Requirements
- Completion of a 4-year accounting related degree (Business Administration or Commerce) with a CPA accounting designation or equivalent is required
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive related experience
- 3 or more years of supervisory/management experience
- Familiarity with public sector accounting, cost accounting and project management is preferred
- Proficiency in developing and implementing comprehensive financial strategies
- Ability to forecast, budget, and plan effectively
- Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights
- Strong communication of complex financial information to diverse stakeholders
- Experience leading financial initiatives and mentoring team members
- Advanced skills in financial software, Microsoft Excel, and online collaborative platforms
