About the role

  • Distribution Engineer at PHASOR Engineering Inc. designing overhead and underground power delivery systems for complex industrial and utility-scale projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of overhead and underground power delivery systems ranging from 4kV to 500kV by creating detailed scopes and estimates, performing calculations, developing design drawings following applicable utility, national or international standards and codes.
  • Interact with internal / external contacts as necessary for design details.
  • Knowledge of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.) are also highly desired.
  • Collect, interpret, and organize project engineering and vendor data, and efficiently select and build bill of materials.
  • Interface with senior personnel to resolve potential technical and project issues.
  • Assist in compiling and maintaining internal engineering standards and work practices.
  • Coordinate with other business units to verify their project design requirements and delivery schedule.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate should possess a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of Seven years' related experience, with a strong focus on complex or industrial electrical distribution system design.
  • Experience in the civil, structural, electrical engineering, construction and telecommunications industry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in PLS-CADD for complex distribution and industrial line design is required; experience with Quickpole or SpidaCalc is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FortisBC, FortisAB, ATCO, Hydro One, or other utility Distribution Standards.
  • Experience with Aerial Communications line & poles inspections or design. Using CSA 22.3 No. 1-20 Overhead Systems and AEUC.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Familiarity with power system operations, practices, and installation standards is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft office software suite of programs.
