About the role

  • SAGD Project Manager leading Alberta site construction contracts for oil sands and energy facilities. Managing execution, commercial terms, safety, quality, schedules, risks, changes, and close-out.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the allocated SAGD site construction contract through planning, monitoring, controlling, reporting, communicating, and leading the project
  • Foster a positive relationship with the Client
  • Report to the General Manager and direct the Construction Manager and project support staff
  • Set up projects according to internal and client requirements, including site-specific execution, HSE, and quality plans
  • Review or contribute to estimates and project execution plans, and manage execution within estimate guidelines
  • Generate project budgets and set up folders/templates
  • Administer time-and-material and lump-sum contracts, including commercial terms, rate schedules, and reimbursable provisions
  • Coordinate hiring or re-allocation of project staff and communicate responsibilities using the Project-developed RASCI Matrix
  • Prepare detailed subcontractor requisitions
  • Manage procurement and expediting of client- and contractor-supplied materials, including module and spool delivery dates
  • Determine schedule detail and publish a three-week look-ahead with site supervision
  • Maintain and report the project risk register
  • Facilitate and lead project meetings
  • Ensure detailed RFIs and provide solutions where applicable
  • Review productivity and progress reports and explain impacts causing low productivity
  • Maintain accurate and timely project reporting
  • Own change management, establish entitlement, quantify impacts, and pursue client disposition of changes
  • Review extra work orders and subcontract change logs
  • Review and approve client, third-party, and inter-company invoices according to authorization requirements
  • Maintain timely Client communication and provide impact and progress reporting
  • Oversee quality inspections and documentation
  • Schedule and participate in audits with the Quality Manager
  • Lead project close-out, including final quantities, holdback release, turnover documentation, lessons learned, and feedback to Estimating
  • Perform other duties as requested by management

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent relevant technical experience
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in industrial construction, involving civil, structural, mechanical/piping, or electrical scopes
  • Demonstrated experience managing SAGD, oil sands or gas plant site construction contracts under time and material and lump-sum terms
  • CSTS-20
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE)

  • Able to define scope of work and project specifications
  • Ability to quantify activities, materials, and supplies
  • Strong negotiation skills, including change and claim resolution with the client
  • Skilled determination of critical construction path
  • Strong understanding of construction safety, quality control, and project controls, including earned value and Rules of Credit reporting
  • Command of prompt payment and lien legislation applicable to Alberta construction contracts
  • Basic accounting knowledge
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in MS Office
  • Experience/Knowledge with Primavera is preferred
